Swedish public radio has an aggregate reach share of 77%, followed by Danish public radio DR with 73%, 68% for NRK radio channels, then 51% for Iceland’s RüV and 49% for Finland’s public broadcaster YLE. Only in Iceland does a privately-owned radio channel Bylgjan, owned by 365 Media, have a leading position, 34% reach share, followed by RüV Radio 2 at 32%. (See more about radio audience here) Bauer Media is active in all Scandinavian countries but Iceland, so far. Modern Times Group (MTG) is the leading private sector broadcaster in Norway with significant presence in Sweden. Nelonen Media, owned by publisher Sanoma, competes with Bauer Media in Finland. New radio platforms, according to the Nordicom summary, are “steadily increasing,” though the data sources tend to combine web radio, streaming services, podcasts with digital (DAB) platforms. Podcasting has traction among the Danish, web radio in Sweden. The radio trend watchers are waiting for a definitive report on Norway’s DAB transition sometime after the first of next year.
