Trade union bristles at new France Culture scheduleMichael Hedges August 30, 2004When France Culture director Laure Adler announced new fall programs (August 26) the trade union representing Radio France employees (CGT) snarled that management was putting the channel in danger. The CGT, critical of Adler since her nomination, said the staff was “hemorrhaging.” “Perhaps it is because she is a woman,” responded Radio France president Jean--Paul Cluzel in defense of Adler. "It is rather normal that management modifies the schedule,” he added. After nine years heading RFI, Cluzel took the reins of Radio France in May. He announced his intention to “invent a 21st century broadcaster” and quickly replaced directors at France Inter and France Musiques. New to the France Culture schedule this fall are programs on international relations, media and North Africa. Add your thoughts and opinions on this or any other article, join the CONVERSATION
